Taking It To The Next Level - Shameless Plug :)
As you may know, I really enjoy food photography. I regularly photograph my food to post either on The Wheeling Gourmet, or just on my Flickr food stream.
I'm a bit stuck right now though. There are two things that would get me unstuck:
- Take a food photography workshop or course.
- Improve my lighting gear.
Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be food photography workshops in New Zealand! Which leaves lighting! I've been using two small flashes for lighting. And I was lucky enough to receive two nice studio flashes from my family for Christmas. With that kind of lighting gear, I'll be set for a while. The problem being that I am currently unable to use the two studio flashes!
The theory was that I could use the on-camera flash to trigger the studio flashes as well as the small flashes. The practice is that while the on-camera flash triggers the studio lights, they aren't synchronised. So the photo is taken after the flash went off - pointless.
To fix that, and be able to use all flashes, I need a bit of kit. Namely, I need a wireless system that triggers all the flashes in the same way, and the right connectors/adapters to interact with the Sony camera and small flashes.

Here's the kit:
- 1 x Cactus Wireless Flash Trigger Set V4 (US$39.95)
- 3 x Cactus Wireless Flash Receiver V4 (US$23.95)
- 1 x Sony ⁄ Minolta Camera Hotshoe Adapter (US$16.00)
- 2 x Sony Proprietary Hotshoe to Pocket Wizard, CyberSync or Elinchrom Skyport (US$28.50)
For a total of US$184.20, plus whatever shipping. Or approximately NZ$265 - with shipping, about NZ$300.
In other words, about a week and a half worth of food in this household! An expense I just can't justify at the moment!
And here's where you come in :)
I'm looking for either donation(s) or micro-loan in order to acquire the kit. Are you in a position to assist me? If so, I would appreciate any and all support!
